Medicine Faculty, Syrian-German Academic Exchange Conferences Kick Off

Damascus, (SANA) – The 3rd annual Medicine Faculty at Damascus University and the 3rd Syrian-German Academic Exchange Conferences kicked off on Sunday at the University on Sunday in cooperation with the Federal Syrian Expatriates League and  the German Philipps University in Marburg.

Assistant Minister of Higher Education Dr. Maher Kabakibi highlighted the issues discussed by the conference, which include endoscopic surgery, neurological science, medical and health care, and methods of teaching and learning medical sciences, in addition to a number of workshops.

For her part, Deputy President of Philipps University Dr. Babette Simon said her university wishes to expand international relations with universities such as Damascus University through exchange of teaching staff and opinions to benefit from experience and expertise in medical and health-related fields.

In turn, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University Dr. Saleh Dawood, the Dean of Philipps University Medical School Dr. Bernhard Maisch pointed out that the conference aims to bolster dialogue among researchers, experts and practitioners in Syrian and German universities, in addition to developing joint plans for research, teaching and training.

The four-day joint conference includes lectures on the result of joint research conducted by a German-Syrian team in the past years in the fields of neurosurgery, endoscopic surgery, accident-treatment surgery and liver and pancreas transplant, in addition to workshops on immunology, teaching, healthcare for children and the elderly, treatment of multiple contusion patients and general surgery.
