DAMASCUS, SANA _ Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Adel Safar has stressed that the Italian officials have expressed their country's desire to promote the level of the political, economic and technical relations with Syria.
In a statement to al-Thawra daily published Sunday, Safar said "Italy expressed commitment to sign the green passage agreement which stipulates free flow of agricultural and other products between the two countries".
"Italian Agriculture Minister underlined the necessity of activating cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the investment and trade exchange", Safar added.
He pointed out that the Italian side has decided to increase the volume of financial aid to Syria in order to activate bilateral cooperation between the two sides, noting that the volume of the Italian annual aid to Syria exceeds USD 5 millions.
He indicated that the World Food Summit, which was held recently in Rome, was disappointing for the poor countries because of its modest results, calling for gearing up the international efforts to help by spreading comprehensive development and ensuing food in the poor countries.
