Damascus, (SANA) – The Syrian movie al-Hawiya (The Identity) by director Ghassan Shmait won the grand award of the Tatwan International Festival for Mediterranean Cinema.
The Festival's panel of judges described the movie as "created with an intricate cinematic language, superior technique and a high-level artistic spirit."
Chairman of the panel of judges, Egyptian actor Hussein Fehmi, described the movie as a poem that affected all members of the panel.
The movie, produced by the state-run General Cinema Establishment, won Musstafa al-Akkad award in the Fajr International Festival in Iran in February.
In a statement to SANA, Shmait stated that he dedicates the award he received in the Tatwan Festival to the people of the occupied Syrian Golan, adding that the movie showcases their struggle, as well as the struggle in Palestine.
