Beirut, (SANA)- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman stressed that the recent series of procedures taken by Syria came as part of what had been agreed upon and stated in the final statement issued following the latest Syrian-Lebanese Summit in Damascus on fighting smuggling across the joint borders between the two countries.
President Suleiman added during a Lebanese Cabinet meeting that President Bashar al-Assad indicated in a recent phone call with him that these procedures were part of the same steps taken by Syria since a certain time to prevent smuggling as agreed upon and go in line with the Resolution 1701.
For his part, Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Fawzi Salloukh said his Ministry is deals with the Syrian procedures along the joint borders with Lebanon as part of the context stated by President Suleiman.
Mr. Salloukh added that subsequently the security cooperation between the security organs in Syria and Lebanon is wanted as announced in the joint statement.
He told the Lebanese cabinet that he is coordinating with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on a visit to Damascus soon in line with their agendas.
