Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov has expressed Russia's readiness to supply Syria with new defensive arms that do not violate the balance of power in the world.
In a statement to reporters today following the wrapping up of summit talks between President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President, Dimitri Medvedev , Lavrov expressed readiness to look into the Syrian demand for purchasing new Russian arms.
He indicated that the summit talks dealt with fundamental international issues stressing that Russia and Syria call for a peaceful solution particularly with regard to the Iranian nuclear issue.
Regarding the situation in Iraq , the Russian foreign minister stressed that both sides see that the key solution to the situation there is by moving toward dialogue among the spectrums of the Iraqi people and by laying down a time table for the withdrawal of foreign troops from Iraq.
Lavrov indicated that the discussion of the situation in the Middle East occupied an important part of the talks and said that the absence of the Palestinian unity would remain an obstacle , stressing Russia and Syria's readiness to exert efforts to conduct a dialogue among the Palestinians for the sake of the unity of the Palestinian ranks.
