President of Paraguay Appoints a Foreign Minister of Syrian Origin

Asuncion, (SANA)-
Paraguayan President-elect, Fernando Lungo who will assume power on Aug. 15th yesterday announced the names of members of his new government including, Alejandro Hamid Franko, a historian of Syrian origin as foreign minister.
Analysts say that the appointment of Franko came as a challenge to the US administration which opposed his appointment.
Dr. Hamid is a professor teaching history at the University of Asuncion .
