Rome, (SANA) – Italian left-wing parties and peace-supporting groups and organization continue to protest the hosting of Israel as a guest of honor at the upcoming Turin International Book Fair which opens on Saturday.
The Party of Italian Communist, the Critical Left party, the Workers' Communist Party and a number of social movements and guilds organized a three-day sit-in and a demonstration to protest Israeli participation in the Fair.
These parties and groups affirmed in statements that boycotting the Fair and protesting against Israeli participation is society's democratic weapon against Israel's breach of international legitimacy resolution and human rights and its practices against Palestinian people.
Statements called on the international community and Italian mass media to acknowledge the truth about the 60th anniversary of Palestine's occupation, calling for ending Israeli occupation of the Arab lands and lifting the siege imposed on Gaza Strip.
Italian authorities declared the Fair area a closed security zone and prohibited approaching it, demonstrations, and distribution of pamphlets and statements. Authorities also called for monitoring movement of individuals heading for Turin.
