Damascus, (SANA)- President Bashar al-Assad has received a message from Sudanese President , Omar Hassan al-Bashir , dealt with the latest developments regarding the accusations of the International Criminal Court to Sudan and its leadership of committing war crimes and extermination acts in Darfur.
The message was conveyed to President al-Assad this morning by Sudanese Presidential Advisor, Ghazi Salah El Din Atabani.
In this regard , President al-Assad expressed Syria's people and their leadership's rejection of the decision of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court , and the attempt targeting President alBashir, considering such a decision as an attempt to blackmail Sudan and to intervene in its internal affairs.
He considered such a court decision will hinder the efforts that are being exerted for establishing peace in Darfur , and will undermine any effort to boost stability in Sudan.
The president stressed that Syria in her capacity as chairman of the Arab Summit will do whatever required for standing by brotherly Sudan in the light of what brotherly Sudan is suffering from plots targeting its security and stability. Atabani for his part, thanked the president for his support to Sudan and its leadership.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister , Walid Moallem and the Sudanese ambassador to Syria.
Mr. Atabani told SANA in a statement that he briefed President al-Assad, in his capacity as President of the Arab Summit, on the developments of the situation in Sudan and the accusations of the International Criminal Court against the Sudanese leadership.
He pointed out to the important role Syria plays due to her Arab Summit Presidency and her regional and international relations. He praised Syria's stances which support Sudan, particularly in the face of accusations that target the country's security and stability.
Mr. Atabani said that "we found during our visit to Damascus all cooperation and support from the brothers in Syria…this is what we expected in advance based on Syria's firm and principled stances over the pan-Arab issues."
