DAMASCUS, (SANA)-Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallim reviewed on Monday with Pastor Rick Warren, the famous Protestant clergyman in the USA, and the accompanying delegation the Syrian-American relations.
Talks during the meeting also dealt with the importance of dialogue between the two countries and the role of religious institution in the work to establish peace in the world, particularly in the Middle East.
In a statement to SANA staff writer following his meeting with Mr. Moualim, Pastor Waren described his meeting with President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday as friendly and great.
He underlined that his meeting with President Assad and Mr. Mouallim dealt with a number of issues related to peace, prosperity, combating poverty, education, and taking care of patients because they are human main issues.
Pastor Waren expressed hope that civilized people including governments, clergymen and businessmen must work together in order to solve those issues, clarifying that his main aim is to work to unify efforts excreted by those parties in order to solve existing matters. "Syria wants peace, and Muslims and Christians live in this country jointly and peacefully since more than a thousand years, and this is not new for Syria" he added, stressing that this coexistence must be an example to be followed.
In a reply to a question on the message he will convey to the American people on Syria, Pastor Waren said that he will tell the Americans that the idea which had been shaped about didn’t reflect the truth and they have to come to Syria and see by themselves and realize her nice people and visit her wonderful and historical ruins.
