Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem underscored importance of the participation of President Bashar al-Assad in the just-concluded Arab Summit in Khartoum in which His Excellency reiterated Syria’s firm stances over Arab issues, particularly Palestine and Iraq.
Mr. Muallem said in a statement in Khartoum on Wednesday that President Assad asserted respect of the Palestinian people’s choice in electing their leadership, and necessity of maintaining Iraq’s territorial integrity and national unity and achievement of full independence and the restoration of the country’s role on the Arab stage. .
Regarding Darfur crisis, the Foreign Minister added that President Assad also stressed Syria’s support to Sudan and rejection of foreign interference in its internal affairs.
He pointed out that the resolutions emerged from Khartoum Summit were unanimously endorsed, noting that Syria presented two draft resolutions on solidarity with Syria against the unilateral sanctions and calling on the U.S. to involve in constructive dialogue.
The Foreign Minister added that the second draft stress Syria’s right in restoring the occupied Golan till June 4th 1967 line as well as solidarity with the steadfastness of our citizens in the Golan.
